Spoilers are teh debil!
Thank you all so much for the support :)  I got a flood of reassuring e-mails!

I tried to look at a spoiler for Grey's today, and I just couldn't do it.  Couldn't.  Do it.  I'm almost starting to wonder if this whole problem I'm having with writing LST stems from anxiety over the show in general.  I'm sort of hovering in "What the hell will Shonda do to fuck this up this time?" mode.  I waffle between optimistic and ridiculously morose, and then I just shove it all out of my brain and do things that I actually enjoy instead.

I guess we'll see when Grey's starts up again.  Are you all ready?  Despite how awful I probably sound, I'm really excited, in my own paradoxical way.

I'll try and get another clip of PD in minimal clothing up this week.  Stay tuned!

I understand the feeling, although I'm actually feeling pretty optimistic. I think the time off from new episodes has made me more in the mood to just go with the flow. I look at it this way: Meredith and Derek are supposed to be together by the end of the season, so I may hate what Shonda does in the next few episodes, but the season will hopefully end on a high note, and we can all actually look forward to next season. So I'm going in with no expectations for these next 5 episodes, and hopefully I can actually enjoy them because of this. I'm trying to stay away from spoilers too, except for all of the stuff that actually makes it to mainstream media. I honestly think the Rose thing was worse because I knew about it and was dreading it for so long. Anyways I hope you can stay optimistic, and good luck with LST!

You are a much stronger person than I am to avoid the spoilers. I have read every single one (and am still incredibly excited about Grey's return!). While I don't doubt that there will be some complications, I'm at least more confident that Shonda has come to her senses about MerDer. What she does with the rest of the characters I don't really care so much about so long as they don't trade off with MerDer screen time too much or contain Ava or George and Izzie sex. Because that? Far too painful to relive.

I'm anxious and looking forward to your final chapter(s), please........but, I also know that one draws inspriration and emotions from watching the show. since you've already written so much and developed characters that aren't even in the show, I really hope that you are not so tied to what ever happens on the TV show as to try to make it all fit into your stories. AS many of us would argue, we think you and several other fanifiction writers are better than the GA staff writers!!

and as for the spoilers, I have read as many as I can find, but also know that sometimes the events don't quite transpire the way they are 'spoiled' out to be or they are compeletly different. Ever think that sometimes the studio puts out these 'red herrings' just to keep us attached and then they reel us in for a different story line?

Perhaps while LST is on hiatis, you might consider writing another "one shot wonder" of completly different GA thought? =) Don't want you to get rusty in the fingers, do we? =)

I know exactly what you mean and sympathise completely, to a degree, I'm convinced that I've had the same issues, at least in part, not now, but certainly a few chapters back. It gets weird when characters we are all so familiar with start behaving in ways that seem out of character.

I'm pleased that in the show apparently all will be well in the end but what worries me is how. I just wonder if it will seem a bit abrupt. I'm all for resolving Meredith and Derek's problems sooner rather than later, but surely it has to be done in a way that makes sense? The thing that amazes me is that I read somewhere the other day that Shonda didn't originally intend to fix Meredith and Derek this season. I suppose what I'm saying is that surely there has to be a balance between fixing them soon and dragging it out. What worries me is that the balance won't be right and it will leave a lot of problems unresolved, which will leave the door open for future splits if Shonda feels the need. Does that make sense?

That said, I'm looking forward to the show to an almost irrational degree. Over here we are seeing season 3 on our Channel 5. It is a couple of episodes in. Having already seen it on the net and on Living TV via satellite, not to mention having the DVD's, it hardly seems worth watching, except of course to see Meredith on morphine again.

Just to be cheeky, a quick question. Is anyone else receiving update alerts from fanfiction.net or is it just that everyone is resting from writing? I'm promising myself that I'll get back to it soon but I seem to have hit an incentive wall. I wonder if others feel the same?

I read all the spoilers a couple of days ago! and without telling too much I'm pretty optimistic, which I always am :P

I'm sure we'll get some good MerDer and if not we'll still have the last part of LST!

I read the spoilers because I'm just that addicted...I need my daily fix of text that includes the names Meredith and Derek. I completely understand your mixed feelings. And while I'm really excited for the comeback of Grey's and for the Mer/Der reunion, I'm getting the feeling from the spoilers that the journey there won't be what I would like to see. But my expectations are high. I'm currently listening to the 1st and 2nd season soundtrack and cannot help but wish for an episode that will have the old feeling....and at least the same amount of screen time for Mer/Der as said seasons.

I'm excited. I tried not to be, I tried to read the spoilers with a cautious eye but I got pulled right in and really got excited and I hope beyond hope that I'm not setting myself up for a fall.

Like many others have said, I'm really curious as to HOW it will be done. Is there some huge something that happens that prompts them to "see the light" so to speak? And for Shonda to say together "for good" in my mind, in order for the viewers to know that it's "for good" and not just "for now" there will have to be some sign of it being permanent....I know from spoilers what Shonda kind of hinted might or might not happen whe she said "I didn't say there would but I didn't say there wouldn't" kind of statement...I don't know if this is a spoiler free zone or not so I don't want to give too much away.

I'd also like for it to be done in a believable way. I know Shonda has said "it's time for Meredith to get over her issues" but I don't think some issues can just be gotten over with the snap of a finger. I don't want Mer instantly "bright and shiny" I would like for both she and Derek to acknowledge during their reunion that they still have issues, but that they will work through them together as a couple.

Like I say, I'm definitely interested to see HOW this all happens and what causes them to both say I want this for good.

I wish I could find some NEW spoilers...I'm betting we'll be swimming in them very soon. After all, there's only 22 days until showtime! :D

I've read the spoilers too and I remain optimistic because -

1. I think ABC has gotten involved on a serious level and was the catalyst behind the Meredith and Derek reunion. I don't think they are going to let Shonda ruin it.
2. LS is only on the show because ABC probably has paid her already and I don't think she will play a major role in the next five episodes.
3. The actors are due to strike on June 1st and if they do, that could hurt production for the fall season. I can't see a scenario where ABC is going to allow MerDer to be in a bad place again during another strike imposed hiatus. I also think this is why the reunion may seem a little rushed, both due to the shortened season this year and the possibly of the strike for next season.

As far as LST goes, I will happily wait for it for as long as it takes.

I've also tried to be a voice of reason again over on TWoP but other than the PD thread, have given up. I'm tired of seeing Meredith and Derek bashed, both individually and together.

I can not NOT read the spoilers. I don't actively go looking for them, but when I come across one, I have to read it. Until now I'm still rather optimistic. I know I'm going to like where they're going with Mer/Der (if Shonda's word can be trusted *g*), I'm just not sure if I'm going to like the way they're getting there. If there will be enough talking - real talking - and if Derek grovels as much as he actually needs to.

Did you give any thought about passing time with the "Stewart meeting Sarah" one (?) shot you once hinted that you might write some day? But of course watching a new clip of wPD in minimal clothing would also be a good way to pass the time :-)

I am feeling optimisitc too. Like many of you, I am worried that the rushed manner in which Shonda gets Meredith and Derek together over these next 5 eps, will make it seem unbelievable and lack depth, seeing as Derek is dating someone else at the beginning of them. But I suppose it may be a good idea to lower our standards for a while, seeing as the whole strike/hiatus/shortened season thing is a very weird dynamic that is not really of Shonda's doing.

I am trying to keep my eye on the big picture overall. Shonda is ending all of the back and forth/will they or won't they crap and getting them together for good. I will take that happening in a rather rushed manner over the next 5 eps (6 if you include the 2 hour season finale) anyday, over it happening 3 years down the road in a less rushed and more organic fashion.

Aria, I hate it for ya that this last wedding chapter of LST seems to be this albatross hanging around your neck. Have you considered breaking it down into smaller bite sized pieces? How about making it 3 parts, a before the wedding chapter, a wedding chapter and a wedding night chapter?

I am not demanding that you write more chapters, just suggesting that maybe you write, edit and post them as 3 separate chapters. That way, instead of the wedding chapter being This Huge Big Deal that you can't ever change or tweak, you can post the first part and if there is something you or we don't like or want to change or tweak, you can do so in the second and third parts.

I am not telling you your own business, far from it. It's just that when I have a task before me that seems to be insurmountable, I find it much easier to accomplish it if I break it down into a series of much smaller tasks.

Whatever you do, I am more than sure that it will be wonderful. It is LST. How could it not be? :)

I am posting this here rather than TWoP because, well, I just can't read them anymore. Hope you don't mind Aria - and I'm sure LST will be terrific when you finally finish it.

I think another one of the major behind the scenes factors in the Meredith and Derek reunion is that the actors are due to strike on June 1st. If they do go out, then that could delay production for the fall. I'm sure the network doesn't want Meredith and Derek to be left in limbo twice over strike delayed hiatuses. I think we will actually get the reunion before we get them ironing out their issues because if they're not together what incentive do they have to work on anything?

I had a really interesting conversation with my entertainment business contacts early in S4 (even before the appearence of Rose). At the time they said it was commonly accepted in the business that Grey's was no longer in the good graces of the industry, that the professionals thought the plotlines were stupid (MerDer, Gizzie particularly). They also said that the professionals felt that Grey's was at a crossroads and either the plotlines would be fixed or they wouldn't and if they weren't, the show would go down a road it couldn't come back from.

So I don't think Shonda decided to re-unite Meredith and Derek this season because of any one reason, I think there were many, many things that came into play, the actors, the fans, the network, the industry. As one who refuses to take sides, and thinks that ultimately they are two people who are deeply in love and just need to trust their love for each other, I am delighted they are re-uniting and am willing to accept some holes in the plot for the last 5 episodes in order for us to see them together.

Someone gave me S3 on DVD this month. . .and I haven't opened it yet. I haven't had time to watch, but still, I haven't even been tempted to put in the extra scenes or commentary things! I think I'm over canon, which is sad. Maybe they'll pull it out, but it's a shame that such promise lasted only the short season 1, the full season two, and the first half of season 3.

I'm so looking forward to the "clip of PD in minimal clothing". Hee!

Take all the time you need to finish LST. It's your baby, you'll finish it when you're ready. For anyone clamoring for an update, go back to Chapter 1 and read it all over again! ;) You know it's worth it and it will be just as enjoyable as the first time you read it.

As for the spoilers, I can't help myself, I read it all. Then wish I hadn't. I wish I could stay away from the boards and the show until S4 is finished and then watch all 5 eps at once. But I can't. I have no willpower over this addiction.

Oh and I have to mention this for all you PD lovers who have sworn off twop. In the last few days a pic was posted over there from his last race showing his tummy and the band of his Calvins! *thud* And this look of sheer joy on his face. *swoon* ;)
